I begin my tour of southwestern Ontario tomorrow, bright and early. I originally planned on cycling from KW west to Windsor, east to Kingston, and then back to KW via Huntsville and Orillia. That loop would have been around 1900km in 19 days.
I’ve had to shave 5 days off my trip. So now I’m planning to cycle east to St. Catherines…then follow the shore of Lake Erie west to Windsor…follow the shore of Lake Huron north to Tobermory…and then south back to KW. 1300km in 14 days.
I’ve never done anything like this before. I’m at once excited and extremely nervous. I asked an acquaintance who does cycle touring how to train…and their reply was, “you don’t…you just get on your bike and start pedalling.”
So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to climb onto my saddle early tomorrow morning and just start pedalling.
